It was one of those quiet Sunday mornings. The toast was cooling on the plate, and Mumma was wiping jam off the counter. That was when she noticed Ben standing by the oven, staring at the glowing numbers.
It said 12:00.
Ben looked up and asked, “Is it lunchtime already?”
Mumma smiled gently. “Well, it depends. Is that twelve in the day or twelve at night?”
Ben looked confused, then laughed. “Wait… there are two twelves?”
That small moment turned into a lovely little chat about how clocks tell time in two different ways. It was not a math lesson. It was just a warm conversation over breakfast.
HEART : Time That Feels Like Family

Time is part of everything we do together. It is the rhythm of our day. It is waking up at 7:00 in the morning, school starting at 8:30, snack time at 4:00 in the afternoon, and bedtime at 9:00 at night.
It is also those gentle questions kids ask when they are trying to understand the world around them.
“Is it still morning?” “How long until Grandma gets here?” “Why does the clock say eighteen?”
When we talk about time with our kids, we are not just teaching them. We are helping them feel safe, settled, and part of the day.
HEAD : Two Ways to Tell the Time

Here is a simple way to explain it.
The 12-Hour Clock
Splits the day into two parts
- Morning (midnight to noon) is called am
- Afternoon and night (noon to midnight) is called pm
Example :
- 7:00 am is breakfast time
- 7:00 pm is dinner time
The 24-Hour Clock
- Counts the whole day from midnight to midnight
- No am or pm, just numbers
Example :
- 07:00 means seven in the morning
- 19:00 means seven in the evening
You might say, “The twelve-hour clock is like two halves of the day. The twenty-four-hour clock is like one long day from start to finish.”

HAND : Simple Ways to Learn Together

Here are some gentle, everyday ways to help your kids understand both clocks.
Plan the Day Together :
Ask your kids to write out their day using the twelve-hour clock. Wake-up, school, playtime, dinner, bedtime. Then help them rewrite it using the twenty-four-hour clock. You might hear something like, “So bedtime at nine pm is twenty-one hundred? That is cool.”
